Finally! Light at the end of the tunnel after more than a year of the pandemic. Select Event Group is very proud of the event community and of our team for the resilience demonstrated throughout. While the past year has been a challenge, it has given us the opportunity to reflect and consider how best to prepare for the post-pandemic world. Our purpose, spoken regularly in team meetings, is to be the safest, most trusted, and well-respected event rental company for our clients. We know that does not happen without hard work and focus. Given this opportunity to reset and refocus, much of our time and consideration has been centered around questions like these:
How did we become the company we are today?
What makes our company special?
What can we do to be better for our clients, our team, and the event community?
In this, our inaugural newsletter, we will share some of our thoughts related to these questions as well as our plans for an exciting, growth-oriented future.
The answer to the questions above is not surprising—we are built by the dedication and hard work of our team members and clients. Over the past 20 years, our team members, have shaped the company we are today. Their impact can be felt everywhere throughout our business and without them, our growth and top-notch products and service would not be possible. Now, more than ever, we are committed to giving continued opportunities to our team to grow in their professional life, just as Select is given the opportunity to grow because of them.
Our clients are what give us purpose. Reflecting on what we mean when we refer to our ‘clients’ can be harder than it seems. Many are considered friends and partners. We are proud of that. We often remind each other that it was not any one single client/partner/friend who made us what we are. It has been thousands of clients who have been there for us over the years and showed us their trust, loyalty and partnership. They challenged us to be better and guided us as we grew, allowing us to forge deeper partnerships. We are extremely proud of that!
As we look to the year ahead, the challenge is, how can we be better? How can we make Select an even better choice—for team members, as a place to build a career, and for our clients to place their trust?
We are energized by this challenge and we have taken our first steps to respond to that challenge. We are confident that these steps will take us to the intersection of what we want Select to be, and what our clients and team members deserve. We want to be closer to our clients and want to have more growth opportunities for our team. We want to make sure that everyone in this region’s event community has access to quality rental products in a timely manner. So, we are putting down roots. Roots in the form of new locations throughout the region.
Our first two new locations in Hunt Valley, Maryland and Manassas, Virginia will be opening this Summer with other locations to follow. Our teams will be focused on providing excellent service to the local event community. They will have all the best attributes of local providers—convenience, timeliness, access, competitive pricing, top quality finishing touch, customer-centric focus – paired with the best attributes of a national company – breadth of capabilities, expansive rental product offerings and logistical/operational excellence. We will focus our team on ensuring that every client is their top client, and no project is too big or too small when it comes to our event community partners.
In addition to our new facilities, we are investing in higher-end product lines that elevate us above the competition and give our partners access to the best there is to offer in rental products and services. Select Event Group is proud to announce our partnership with Sperry Tents! Select is now the exclusive provider of Sperry Tents in Maryland, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, and Western Pennsylvania. Many people talk about ‘sailcloth’ products. Sperry is the original tent manufacturer of genuine, handsewn sailcloth. Where others use vinyl, Sperry uses the original product shared by sailing vessels. The support poles are not wrapped aluminum; they are real, hand-milled spruce wood. The Sperry product dates back to the 1970s and remains a top option for tented events. It is one of the few tent products that is requested by name and we plan to ensure that our partners have access to this product line without spending more than with the competitor knockoffs. This partnership elevates our high-end Tents, Structures & Flooring Division’s product offerings for our clients.
In our Rentals, Linens & Furnishings Division, we are investing in new linen lines, new chair lines and more in hopes of meeting the return of the event industry exactly where they need us to be. We love to hear feedback from the community, so please do not hesitate to send us your ideas.
We are excited and these changes are not the last. We are growing with more emphasis on local, more emphasis on partnership, more emphasis on attention to detail.
